CECAB Receives SCC Accreditation
The Canadian Environmental Certification Approvals Board (CECAB) received accreditation to CAN-P-9 (ISO 17024) from the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) for their EMS(A) and EMS(LA) certification program effective as of December 20, 2006.  CECAB will be notifying CEAA EMS(A) and EMS(LA) certificate holders regarding the transfer process.  If you have any questions, please contact CECAB at the addresses below.

This step effectively completes the planned transfer of certification services from CEAA to CECAB.  Please note, however, that CEAA will continue to administer the Provisional Environmental Auditor (PEA) and Certified Health and Safety Management System Auditor (CHSMSA) programs.

CEAA announces Certified Health and Safety Management System Auditor Designation
On February 20, 2006, CEAA announced the launch of the Certified Health and Safety Management System Auditor (CHSMSA) designation.  This designation is designed for those persons who audit health and safety management systems such as those described by OHSAS 18001, ANSI Z10 and CSA Z1000 (still in development).  The program is based, to a certain extent, on CEAA's successful EMS Auditor program.  The qualification requirements follow closely on those described in ISO 19011 for EMS Auditors.

There will be only a single grade, the Certified Health and Safety Management System Auditor.  Details of the qualification requirements can be found in the CEAA Application Guidance for Certified Health and Safety Management System Auditors. This document, as well as the Application for Certified Health and Safety Management System Auditors can be found on the Certified Health and Safety Management System Auditor page of the CEAA website located here.

The Board of Directors of CEAA have also noted that the introduction of the CHSMSA program changes the focus of the Association from one of environmental auditing to a broader range.  The Board has taken under consideration the possibility of a name change for the Association.  Such a change will be dependent on the success of the new program, which the Board will monitor prior to making a decision regarding the Association's name.

For further information regarding the CHSMSA program, please visit the CHSMSA page of the CEAA website, located here, or contact the Executive Director (Registrar) at .
