TITLE: Environment, Health and Safety Officer
REPORTS TO: Vice-President, Operations
LOCATION: Vancouver

General Responsibilities:
Partnering with management to ensure Rocky Mountaineers employees/guests safety is of a world class standard. Implementing policies and procedures that continue Great Canadian Railtour Company's long-standing commitment to environmental cooperation and stewardship.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Monitor overall company compliance with all applicable safety regulations and implement recommendations for corrective action as required.
- Oversee the Companys Railway Safety Management System (RSMS)
- Scrutinize the federal regulatory environment for the introduction of new safety regulations and analyze and recommend plans for implementation.
- Act as an ambassador with government agencies and organizations.
- Identify opportunities for wellness initiatives and coordinate implementation.
- Support the effective functioning of all Safety Committees (in Vancouver, Kamloops and onboard the train) including monthly meetings, safety inspections and accident investigations through training, advice and monitoring.
- Advance the Companys position on environmental cooperation by introducing further sustainable operating policies and practices that create minimal environmental impact and promote environmental awareness
- Develop, maintain and constantly improve safety policies, emergency preparedness procedures, crisis management approach, accident investigations, first aid, and other required programs.
- Coordinate the accurate collection and reporting of safety statistics for analysis and as required by regulations.
- Build and maintaining strong working relationships with external stakeholders, suppliers, associations and partners as it pertains to EH&S.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
- Strong partnering ability with senior management; ability to provide guidance and compelling advice;
- Excellent non-authoritative influencing skills; adept in effectively coaching and counseling peer employees.
- Outstanding presentation, written communication, and group facilitation skills.
- Robust relationship building skills; widely recognized for their ability to sell ideas.
- Ability to see the big picture and can implement complex organization-wide projects; has a strategic mind.
- Ability to multi-task in demanding fast-paced environment.
- Aptitude to understand basic mechanical engineering concepts in liaising with maintenance staff.
- Expansive regulatory and legislative compliance background; knowledge of RSMS is a definite asset.
- Business acumen; contributing to budget planning for safety, health and wellness initiatives.
